Description
Here we have the tools needed to hold a 8.8" Ford rearend housing in alignment when you are narrowing, assembling or changing the width using 9" Ford 3.15" or 2.835" housing ends.So we are clear here, you are building a 8.8" Ford housing, but cutting the ends off and replacing them with the Big or Small Ford 9" housing ends. You will be using aftermarket axles, not the original c-clip style axles. ( if you want to narrow a stock housing and use stock c-clip axles, I have these kits also. Check my other listings)
Included are.....
One Rearend Ruler. It is used on the common 8.8" Ford rearend and allows you to easily and accurately measure the following....Pinion Centerline, Pinion Location, Housing Centerline, Axle Centerline, Carrier Centerline, Rearend Bracket Locations and Both Axle Lengths This tool is made of stainless steel which should last a lifetime and only requires your tape measure to use. If you have ever tried to calculate the axle lengths needed for your 8.8" Ford rearend project, it can make you pull your hair out. To use, simply bolt the Rearend Ruler on four of the rear cover bolt holes on your 8.8" Ford housing, hook your tape measure in the appropriate slot and measure. No more guess work or complicated math.
One pair of housing end bushings or rings that fit the Big Ford housing ends that use the 3.15" o.d. bearing or the Small Ford housing ends that use the 2.835" o.d. bearings.
One pair of lock rings to hold the above bushings in place on the shaft.
And one pair of bushings or rings that would fit in the 8.8" Ford differential case that measures 3.06". These bushings fit where the differential bearings would normally be. (LM603012)
All three are designed to be used with a 1 1/4" o.d. alignment shaft and the bushings are machined from 6061 aluminum right here in good old Missouri.
6061 aluminum is the material of choice for Dart aluminum engine blocks, Aeroquip AN fittings, aluminum racing flywheels, OHC camshaft sprockets, etc. These are just bushings and will see no wear or abuse and should last a lifetime.
The 1 1/4" shaft
IS NOT
included in this listing.
Due to the high shipping cost of a solid steel bar five feet long , we suggest you source the alignment bar locally or online. Most people use a 1 1/4" o.d. 1018 solid steel cold rolled shaft 60" – 72” in length. The common bar diameter of 1018 cold rolled steel is 1.248” and works well. The industry standard for 1018 round bar is .002” smaller than the stated diameter. Chrome Moly, Stainless Steel and tubing may be larger than the 1.248" required. SpeedyMetals, OnlineMetals and DiscountSteel are a good source for the bar although you should be able to source it from a local welding or steel shop. Obviously the shaft needs to be straight, not rusty and the proper length for your project.
Lightly lubricate the bar with oil.
We also have kits for 10 bolt GM, 12 bolt GM, 7.5" GM, 10 & 12 bolt GM,
57-64 Olds, 59-64 Pontiac,
8 3/4" Mopar, Dana 35, Dana 44, Dana 60, 8" Ford, 8.8" Ford and 9" Ford. Check our other listings.
