AN EXTREMELY RARE AND SELDOM SEEN EARLY 18TH CENTURY DUTCH BIBLE BOX WITH ITS ORIGINAL TURNED BALL FEET AND ALL ORIGINAL ADDED BRASS DECORATION.
DUTCH, Circa 1720-1750 IN MAHOGANY
A WONDERFUL EARLY 18TH CENTURY DUTCH BIBLE BOX IN MAHOGANY WITH ITS ORIGINAL TURNED BALL FEET AND ALL ORIGINAL APPLIED BRASS DECORATIVE ELEMENTS.
A HIGHLY DECORATIVE PIECE, THESE EARLY DUTCH BOXES ARE KNOWN FOR THEIR ADDED BRASS DETAILS.
THIS BOX HAS THE BEST PIERCED BRASS CORNERS AS WELL AS ADDED BRASS KNOBS AND THE BEST FRONT ESCUTCHEON.
THE TOP HAS A MATCHING ELEMENT TO THE ESCUTCHEON.
THE SIDES STILL RETAIN THEIR ORIGINAL BRASS CARRYING HANDLES.
IT STILL RETAINS ITS ORIGINAL IRON LOCK, (the top keeper is off but present and will be sent with the box).
THE ONLY RESTORATION IS THAT THE ORIGINAL STRAP HINGES WERE REPLACED IN THE 19TH CENTURY, (see photos).
IT IS IN AN OLD GRUNGY SURFACE WITH MUSH OF THE ORIGINAL BLACK PAINTED HIGHLIGHTS ON THE MOLDINGS AND THE FEET STILL INTACT.
ALL NICE EARLY HAND WROUGHT NAILS THROUGHOUT.
